Native Seed Collection



This two-hour class, designed for adults, will provide an introduction to the importance of using native plants in the landscape and the methods used to collect the seeds of native plants. The class will examine how to identify various seeds, discuss times to harvest, as well as cleaning and storage.

Led by our staff horticulturists, attendees will have the opportunity to explore seed collection methods in the field at Duke Farms and learn seed cleaning methods inside our growing areas. Pre-packaged native plant seeds from the property are given to participants to take home and sow.

This class will be offered on the following Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon:

Using seeds collected on the property, more than 80,000 plants have been raised in a native nursery at Duke Farms.

Native seeds play an important role in the regeneration of habitat at Duke Farms. These are native wildflowers in a restored meadow.
