SUMMARY:Birding & Stewardship Series: Barred Owl
DESCRIPTION:Build it and they will come—stewardship edition.\n\n\nParticipants will go on an evening birding walk through Duke Farms to learn about the meadow and forest restoration projects that have supported our bird of the month\, the barred owl. Thanks to these efforts\, many warblers and other bird species can find nesting sites and food sources here on our grounds\, and we’ll talk about birding for all of them. Also learn how vital these ecosystems are to bird populations\, why restoration is important\, and how Duke Farms did it! \nFollowing the owl walk\, participants will dissect owl pellets to learn more about their diets.  \nParticipants will come away with basic birding skills such as using binoculars\, using field guides\, and taking advantage of community science apps like eBird and Merlin. \n\n\nProgram Guidelines\nRegistration is required. Please let us know if you are no longer able to attend so your space can be offered to someone else. Cancellations received at least 48 hours in advance are eligible for a refund\, if applicable. \nPrograms at Duke Farms are RAIN or SHINE\, but in the event of severe weather\, classes may be rescheduled or cancelled. This program has a rain date of November 15. Email notice will be given as early as possible via email and refunds will be issued in the case of cancellations. \nPlease note\, we will be traveling through areas with increased potential for tick exposure.
