About This Event

Help your students think like a scientist!

Course Overview

When New Jersey became the first state to weave climate education throughout its learning standards, the message was clear: because climate change impacts every subject and every student, the need for climate literacy is just as universal. But while it’s true that the effects of global change are all around us–well, we still have to know where, and how, to see them. In this workshop, we’ll present a few ways for students to do just that. Whether students are estimating the sequestration capacity of living trees, documenting long-term shifts in seasonal change, or analyzing carbon capture from soil organic matter, there’s no better way to practice “thinking like a scientist” than to do real science. And when the data students generate is contributed to ongoing research, these field experiences become avenues not only for learning but for authentic climate action.
