Convene. Inspire. Ignite

Events and convenings where mission, land, and people move work forward.

Duke Farms is a Doris Duke Foundation center and living lab for model strategies in nature restoration, wildlife conservation, and clean energy transition. We host mission-aligned gatherings that use the campus to help people learn, decide, and act.

A curated convening platform, not a generic rental venue.

The strongest gatherings at Duke Farms use the setting as part of the work. The campus makes land stewardship, clean energy, sustainability, conservation, and shared responsibility tangible, so participants leave clearer, more connected, and more ready to act.

Fit check.

Strong fit:

  • Gatherings where the campus helps people learn, decide, align, or carry work into action.
  • Programs, retreats, and convenings that benefit from land-based learning, hospitality, and careful facilitation.

Not a fit:

    • Weddings, birthdays, private celebrations, or date-and-room-only rental requests.

    • Political campaign activity, lobbying, fundraising, commercial sales, or product promotion.

    • Events that do not connect meaningfully to Duke Farms, DDF priorities, or the purpose of the living laboratory and campus.

Formats

    • Conferences and public programs

    • Leadership and board retreats

    • Partner and practitioner convenings

    • Field learning experiences

Who should inquire?

Nonprofits, academic institutions, community-based organizations, practitioners, public-sector partners, and mission-aligned organizations whose work connects to conservation, sustainability, creativity, equity, or public impact.

What is difference between a convening and an event?

Convenings are typically purpose-driven gatherings designed for learning, alignment, relationship-building, or decision-making. Events may be larger, more public-facing, or require more production support, such as panels, workshops, conferences, screenings, or receptions.

What kind of gatherings are a strong fit for Duke Farms?

Convenings are typically purpose-driven gatherings designed for learning, alignment, relationship-building, or decision-making. Events may be larger, more public-facing, or require more production support, such as panels, workshops, conferences, screenings, or receptions.

What is not a good fit?

Duke Farms does not host weddings, birthdays, private celebrations, or date-and-room-only rental requests. Political campaign activity, lobbying, fundraising, commercial sales, and product promotion are also not permitted.

How far ahead should I submit a request?

Please submit an inquiry at least 60 days before your preferred date. More lead time is recommended for high demand seasons, multiday gatherings, larger groups, public programs, catering, accessibility needs, AV, security, transportation, or other production support.

How are inquiries reviewed?

Requests are reviewed for mission alignment, audience and participant fit, intended outcomes, date and space availability, staffing capacity, production needs, and overall feasibility.

How are costs handled?

Costs vary depending on group size, timing, space needs, catering, staffing, AV, accessibility accommodations, security, vendors, and overall production complexity. The team provides a tailored estimate after reviewing the inquiry.

Can guests stay overnight?

Overnight capacity is limited and may be available for select mission-aligned retreats or multiday convenings. Availability depends on dates, group size, staffing, and the purpose of the gathering.

What should I include in the inquiry?

Share who is gathering, why Duke Farms is the right setting, your preferred dates, expected headcount, format, accessibility considerations, catering or AV needs, and what participants should learn, decide, or carry forward after the gathering.
