Monarch & Meadow Month: What Makes a Meadow?

In this resource, we talk about what makes a natural area a meadow. Do you know recognize the features of a meadow? Are they open or closed off? What kind of plants grow there? This resource includes activities on putting steps of ecological succession in order and formulating scientific observations.

At Duke Farms, August marks Monarch and Meadow Month as we focus on the multitude of magnificent stories of the interactions between and among this biodiverse ecosystem. The monarch butterfly is certainly one of the featured creatures, but as the month unfolds, you will soon discover through activities, lesson plans, videos, book links, and creative resources, much more about why our meadows need to be maintained and preserved.

In this resource, we talk about what makes a natural area a meadow. Do you know recognize the features of a meadow? Are they open or closed off? What kind of plants grow there? This resource includes activities on putting steps of ecological succession in order and formulating scientific observations.
