What's a "native plant" and how does it make a difference? Plants are native if they naturally grow in a region, ecosystem, or habitat, without human introduction - they are adapted to their local soil, water regime, weather, and climate so they need less maintenance than plants introduced from other areas. Native plants aren't just taking up space, though. The most critical function of native plants is maintaining diverse habitats for wildlife. This resource reviews the benefits of native plants and how you can have a helping hand in supporting the species native to your area.
