Sustainability September: Permaculture

Sustainability September will highlight how Duke Farms serves as a model of environmental stewardship and ways that you can infuse practices in your home, community, and workplace that encourage a cleaner greener life for generations to come while also combating climate change.

The word permaculture is a blend of the two words, "permanent" and "agriculture". Permaculture is a form of sustainable agriculture, founded in the 1970s by Bill Mollison, an Australian ecologist. The principle behind permaculture is creating a system that mimics what grows and thrives together in a natural ecological process. Through permaculture, gardeners and farmers can eliminate waste and pollution, avoid damage to soil, and even increase crop yield.
