What is Eagle Banding?

Hello from Duke Farms! You may know about our eagles from our live Eagle Cam. The male eagle has been a Duke Farms resident since at least 2008, which is when we installed the eagle cam.

Since the New Jersey eagle population has an extensive and dramatic history, we work extensively with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife to ensure any chicks from our nest can live to their fullest potential. This means that we band the eagles and sometimes monitor their health and location. You may be asking, how is this possible?

When we set out to band the eagle chicks in 2019, we made this video to record the whole process. Watch to learn how professionals band eagle chicks so we can better monitor and support the eagles from afar.
